Author Hiren Sanyal says his debut English novel revolves around the principles of Indian philosophy
Congratulations on the release of ‘Reminded: Mother India’. We believe this is your debut as an Indian writer in English. What are your other published works?
I authored several books in Bengali and these were published by eminent publisher, Dey’s Publishing, Kolkata. Some of them are Bhalomanusher Chhora; Samay, Samaj O Sarada; Bharatiya Samaj Bikasher Baishistya, Bharat Sandhane Bango, Mahabharoter Darpone, etc.
What is ‘Reminded: Mother India’ about?
Everybody in this world, all inhabitants of this mother earth, are India’s relatives. In spite of numerous variations in modern civilization, the novel expresses a notion of unity and mankind. The story revolves centering a little boy’s life. His journey to the maturity, humanity and greatness of the life. To the spirit of Indianness and Indian philosophy. Just in opposition to the commercialism and so called modernism of present age.

Serious and thoughtful genre.
Which kind of writing by Indian authors do you like?

The book aims to break common myths, especially among young aspirants, about starting a career in banking, says author Divesh Mishra, who has worked with two leading banks, SBI Group and HDFC.
Congratulations on the release of ‘Simple Guide to Banking’. Have you been a banking professional?
For 34 years, of which the first 11 years with the State Bank Group and the last 19 years with HDFC Bank. I am fortunate to learn many things at these two great institutions.
What made you write a book on the subject of banking?
Banking is not taught in the class rooms. As a result, there are many misunderstandings about a career in banking, such as one needs to be a commerce student, a CA, or an MBA, must hail from a large city or to be having bankers in the family. Banking is fun and anyone having a flair for meeting people and an ear to listen can flourish as banker. I want to tell young boys and girls from the small towns and from little known colleges that they stand a fair and an equal chance to become top bankers. They just need to master the basics.
Do you feel most titles on banking do not give readers a clear idea about the subject?
I am not qualified to answer this as I have not read all the books on banking.
Which reader base are you targeting with your book?
Young boys and girls, homemakers, pensioners, people in uniform. All those who though that the banking industry runs like a club. However, this book is principally aimed at those young minds who aspire towards a career in the banking and financial sector.
What support and guidance did you receive in the process of writing this book?
Anything that I possibly could ask for. Ex-colleagues, family, my current team. Everyone happily contributed.

While the leaves signify the freshness of the poems, the chillies represent the irony in them, says author HL Agnihotri about his anthology of poems.
Congratulations on the release of ‘Leaves of Green Chillies’. What does the title suggest?
The title of my book ‘Leaves of Green Chillies’ is just like the silver crown on the head of a beautiful girl as it reflects the mind and soul of my book.
Do you research a lot while writing a book?
Every writer, in a way, is a researcher— the researcher of current and burning issues, life-like characters with pulsation of life, and good style. A good writer is always in search of new words and new phrases.
You have got several published titles till date. How is the current title different from the rest?
I have spent a lot of time to decide on the title so that it is somewhat different from others. Leaves stand for greenery and freshness of my poems; whereas green chillies stand for the pinch of bitterness that equates more with the irony in my poems. On the whole, green leaves and green chillies reflect greenness and freshness of my book.
What kind of books do you enjoy reading?
I like reading literary books that give me new ideas and rich emotions and passions that inspire me to write. My eye is always on new methodology and techniques that may give new direction to my writings.
What inspires you as a writer?
Good, natural and spontaneous ideas and emotions inspire me to write poetry. I’m inspired from such writings that engross my mind and touch the inner depth of my heart for inspiration.

Caroline Monteiro hopes to reconnect with her biological family members through her debut book that talks of her life’s journey.
Congratulations on the release of ‘From the Streets of Mumbai to Dubai’. Is this your debut attempt as an author?
Yes. have been wanting to write this for a long time, now I wish to continue to write many more books from here on.
We believe it’s an autobiographical account. What made you write this?
I want the whole world to know how kind God has been in protecting me from all sorts of dangers through all the stages of my life. Even in the most difficult moment, when everyone would consider it impossible for an 8-year old girl to survive.
Through this book I would like to connect with all the people who have helped me in my journey, especially those with whom I have lost contact. I also hope to reconnect with my biological family members.
What kind of help and support did you receive from people in the course of writing this book?
I was blessed to have received a lot of emotional support and strength from my two lovely daughters, my dear husband and my two dearest friends Leena Miranda and Ratna Lama, who constantly stood by me as pillars of support and encouragement.
What inspires you as a writer?
It gives me immense pleasure to share my life experiences in the form of stories, with the hope that it can inspire other people who may be in similar situations. I also enjoy writing.
What kind of readers are you expecting for your book?
While I want the whole world to know my story, I mainly want to reach out to people who are going through difficult moments in their life. I want all of them to believe that there is still hope and a very loving God to help them out of every situation in their life.

Sports rivalries may not always be confined to playing fields finds out Jayesh Sinha while researching for his book on the subject
First of all, Congratulations on the release of ‘Greatest Sports Rivalries’? How does it feel to be an author?
It feels good. Never thought I would write a book and having written one and gotten it published does feel good.
Your book deals with the stories of legendary rivalries of the greatest sports legends that ever were. What made you come up with the subject?
I have always been interested in sports and I have followed a lot of sports, not just one or two. Sports was something right up my alley. I was watching the Australian Open Final in 2017 between Federer and Nadal when I thought what are the other great rivalries in sports. For instance what is the greatest rivalry in Basketball or Chess or Rugby? How did those rivalries come to be. I started reading up on it and felt the story of these rivalries needs to be told.
How much research went into making this book?
A lot. I had to read up extensively on rivalries from each global sport, their history the great games that they played, etc. However as a sports fans reading those stories and learning new things was an absolute pleasure. I got to learn a lot of new things. For instance Cricket is a sport I think I know as well anyone, but I was shocked to learn that the Ashes is not the oldest running Cricket series in the World. That honor belongs to the Auty Cup, which is a series played between the USA and Canada!! It was first held in 1844, nearly four decades before the Ashes and is still held to this date. The previous edition which was held in Toronto in 2017 was won by the USA.
This was astonishing to learn and I got to learn plenty of new things about other sports as well.
Which are the rivalries that have most intrigued you?
I think each of the rivalries covered in the book are very intriguing, but personally I would say the el Classico is a story of two great football teams and the origins of that rivalry is just so deeply tied in with the story of Spain, the regional differences, the politics, etc.it really stands out.
Are you writing anything next?
Not yet. I have been thinking about a few topics, wll try and get down to writing something soon hopefully.
